Most of us are familiar with all the "party" companies, with their desperate distributors... describing great dreams... encouraging us to start by making a LIST of family, friends and everyone... When I was young I used to believe people really were inviting me to a party...how disappointed I always was that the "party" was only a sales/recruiting meeting. You know what I'm talking about. There is a lot money to made in network marketing but one of the keys is to create an environment where people are coming looking for you to buy what you have to sell and do what you're doing. It's the difference between having people avoid you like the plague, and having people actually hunt you down begging for information on your opportunity. So what exactly is the definition of network marketing? It is a business distribution model similar to franchising which involves independent, networked agents who move products or services from a manufacturer, or parent company, to the agents’ sponsored consumers. The new consumers then become independent agents as well. Products are sold largely by word of mouth for a commission on the agents’ sales revenues, and smaller commissions on the revenues of their sales-force or recruits called down line. There are often multiple levels of distributors or associates receiving commissions off one person’s sales. A distributor's commissions are based off of personal sales plus the leveraged down line revenues . The size of distributor's down line revenue may also determine the percentage of the commission. This word or mouth, direct selling method of marketing is a multi-billion dollar worldwide industry that distributes practically any portable or downloadable item. Some countries have restricted or banned this type of marketing due to the scare of illegal pyramid schemes. However many reputable companies use NM in a legal, moral fashion. Some businesses incorrectly claim to be network marketers simply because they use a network of product suppliers. But for them to truly fit into the category, they would need to also have the multi-level marketing aspect as described above. Distributors are often referred to as independent agents, nonsalaried sales people, independent distributors, associates, consultants, independent business owners, franchise owners and sales consultants.
