Viral Marketing to
Make Money from Home

Viral marketing has amazing capacity to broadcast your promotional message by “word of mouth” in much the same way a virus spreads from person to person within a social network and from there to countless other social networks. The goal is to saturate all social networks within your niche with your viral message.

A viral message is a message you create which is passed from individual to individual and from social network to social network BECAUSE it contains information that people love to share.

It's a form of advertising which must be regularly maintained or it will fizzle out, because it subsists on human interest and excitement. It takes advantage of any accessible social network for the purpose of promoting a business, product or service. Without regular maintenance however, it will die as soon as people begin to talk or write about something else.

Also, because these messages are spread freely by people who either love or hate the promotion or who are just curious about it, much care should be given to providing the best possible information, service or product. Bad publicity will often spread three times faster than good publicity. So Beware!

A viral marketing campaign can start with an article submitted to article directories, ezines, groups, blogs, or with a free ebook, or video clip posted on YouTube, or through Flash games, advergames, images people love to pass along (with your ad and link), or with brandable software, and even text messaging. A good viral marketing campaign begins by selecting individuals or social networks with the highest potential for spreading a promotion within a given niche. This is called SNP (Social Networking Potential). Things to consider are how many members the network has; how good member participation within the network is; are there leaders within the network which would benefit in promoting for you; how open is the network to distributing information; what means is used for distribution; and network recognition or influence.

Next, good viral advertising MUST deliver a message that individuals within a niche will WANT to pass along to their social networks. This message is referred to as a "viral message", because people pass the message along freely to others. We see this often with humorous or stirring images, videos or written content passed along by email or text messages.

Other terms for viral marketing are “undercover marketing”, stealth marketing”, “buzz marketing”, “guerrilla marketing”, and by some critics it’s negatively referred to as “roach baiting”. Internet marketers often write about creating a “buzz” online in order to draw social net workers’ attention to something they want to sell without people actually realizing they are being sold something. They may tell about something that is free, or offer friendly suggestions on the best something. The hope is that their online friends or colleagues will take the suggestion and pass it along. Consumers may believe that this is happening spontaneously, when in fact it is part of a stealth marketing plan.

Not all viral marketing plans are undercover though. Some are very transparent, and still do exceedingly well if they are offering something that is very needed within the niche. In a market where competition for similar products is great, provisions of the best needed information through free articles, free ebooks, free ezines, etc. can become viral messages within your niche spreading like wildfire and putting you at the top.
